Is copying the meta keywords from a competitor's site a copyright violation? It doesn't have the same feel as simply just grabbing the content and running. Also, what about the meta descriptions and titles? I'm not trying to rip anyone off, but more so trying to successfully replicate a profitable business model.

copyright violation is when you use copyrighted material so if the keywords are brand names / trademarks / etc... it is a violation of copyright... if not then you have no problem

You should be alright as long as you are careful, but I suggest you read up on copyright law a bit.

Also, as m4dm4n said you want to stay away from trademarks and brand names. Slogans or other well-known descriptions could also be considered copyright infringement. Thing is you really don't have to worry much since I'm sure you aren't copying a big name site so unless you really start to cut their profits you'll be fine.

I'm frequently cross checking my pages in Copyscape versus the site that I'm replicating. I'm hoping that will be enough. Worst case would be losing an Adsense account or other affiliate program if a complaint would come up.

Dont forget to re-write them or try to make it unique by putting some of your phrases.
