A few weeks ago I bought a premade website. With that came a few images. After a little research I found out some of those pictures are also to be found on iStockPhoto. I emailed the seller and he said "My designer only uses copyrightfree images, so I assume the images are 100% copyright free."

What should I do? The picture was uploaded in may 2007. Is there any way I can find out if it is really copyrightfree? What if I get sued after a while, is the websiteseller responsible?

    Thanks in advance.

ha! not my experience! good thing, too.

i know that many people like to snag pictures without permission from the owner, so i posted that article as a warning. a decade ago you could have
gotten away with it, but many copyright laws have been changed or added.

Look if you're that nervous just replace the image? Odds are you won't even get a C&D letter but if helps you sleep at night then just replace it. Either that or go anonymous on the site!

If your worried, then go get an account on istockphoto and buy the same pictures. I use istockphotos and the cost is very minimal. They charge for different sizes and resolutions and the smallest is most always an acceptable size. Your concerns about copyrights are well founded. Do a Google search on the copyright troll Righthaven.
