    Hi Guys,

Just received a notice from LCS dot global that an image on my website is a copyright infringement. I just checked with the guy who designed the site. He confirmed that he did it.

LCS has asked to pay £675 as the settlement fee. Its like a huge money for me. I never made a single penny from this site. Is there a way that I can avoid paying this settlement fee?

What should be my next course of action?

Its absolutely unimportant, small image on my contact us page. I have never imagined someone can ask that much money for absolutely unimportant image.

Please suggest. I look forward to hear from fellow BHWers.

    Thanks

Yeah remove and ignore, the amount of money he'd have to spend in court would not be worth the time.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I removed it right away. I live in Canada. I built this site when I used to live in UK. But for last 5 years I'm in Canada. But here is what they say:

"If your company does not have a valid license to use this imagery, please stopusing the imagery immediately, and remit a settlement payment in the amount
of £657.00 to cover retroactive licensing fees. Please remit payment within 10
business days of the date of this email in order to avoid higher fees.

Please note that ceasing use of the imagery does not release your company of
its responsibility to pay for the usage that has already occurred. We realize you
may not have known that this imagery was subject to license. Unfortunately,
copyright infringement can occur regardless of knowledge or intent, and this does

    not change liability."

"I removed the imagery from my website. Can I consider this matter closed?
No, the matter is not resolved. While we appreciate the removal of the imagery from your website, the prior unauthorized use of the imagery on the website is considered copyright infringement. Since copyright infringement already occurred, payment for that unauthorized use is necessary."

Fret not, they don't have any ace up their sleeve against you. They're just trying to earn some quick cash over naive people. Don't be one. :)

Are you a company then? If not they haven't done any checks at all and sounds a bit fishy to me. Call their bluff and say you removed the image and a third party designer added the image without your knowledge. Once you realised that a copyright infringement had occured the said image was removed.
I doubt very much if they will continue, they've just seen an easy way to make cash and hold you to ransom.
Have you checked the company out, google them to see if they do it a lot

You should had definitely not answered back... Everyone here told you basically "delete and IGNORE".
Reason is, they now have "Proof" of your guiltiness, in a way.
Really everything you tell them, just helps them making a case against you. But it is unlikely they would do it, its not really economical.
