I was analyzing my competitors, who ranking on first page with thousands of keyword, backlink strategy. He has got around 30 backlinks from Press Release websites. All these press release website has same article with same anchor link and directing the backlink to the home page.

Should I also purchase some Press-release service? Its risky as the content in all the sites would be same.

I did read somewhere such links are counted as one. This way authoritive properties with weak cms causing duplicate content wont get penalties

It is known as Canonical URL.
You can make the same content in many sites by using this URL.
Canonical URLs allows you to tell Search Engines that certain Same URLs are actually one and the same.
By using these URL (rel=canonical) can exist without harming your rankings .
So, it is not a risky IMO.

Don't just copy their backlinks, use them as a guide.
Buy a press release. Wait a bit, buy another. Don't have all yours the same.

If he has 50 basic web2s? Then build 30 super web2s and 40 expired web2s.

If he has 1 ok domain guest post, build 3 great domain real guest posts.

It is a press-releases distribution and this is how it works. Going for the same link as your high-ranked competitors have got is good, but make sure you build links on our own too. Being unique and creative is what Google wants.

Yeah, You can purchase press release service as Quality wise not for Quantity wise :) and don't use same contents, use unique informative contents with every back links.

Also make 20+ authority & guest posts in your own way :cool::cool: It will give a better results than your competitors :D

Look at the site where your competitor got backlinks, it's not a problem if you got it from the same sites IMO.Quality matters everything.

Following your Competitors Backlink Strategy is good, But make sure you get the same high quality of links and also building more links at a same time may affect your site to avoid this, kindly do dripfeed the links you get and this strategy may helps you to get a better results :)

OP, your site is not equal to your competitors. Sometimes copying your competitor's backlink strategy may do harm than good. What you can do instead, just what the guys are saying here, go after quality backlinks or quality press releases. Also, always keep in mind that you build backlinks slowly and distribute your links well.

If he is ranking for thousands of keywords, he will not be ranking by using Press Release only. Besides, Press release are nofollow links.

He might have thousands of PBNs hidden from crawlers.

It's smart to learn your competitors and the way they optimize their websites, but it is also smart to get better backlinks for your own project, remember the links should be naturally placed, contain proper anchor texts, be surrounded with relevant content etc.
