I have a couple of domains and it holds true with other domains I have tried this with. If anyone has a different opinion let me know.

If type my domain into G00Gle in this format mydomain and I do not include the .com, .net, .org or any of the extensions. The results that are displayed should be your domain on top of the first page.

If the domain appears on any other page it is penalized or whatever you want to call it.

    Anyone else??

Not necessarily, if your domain name is a common keyword the results your may get might not be your url, as it depends on the level of competition. I have one domain name with one distinctive keyword (so I thought) and I took me quite a while to move to the first place.

This would make sense but when I checked my domain for months without the extension it was my domain name on page 1, first position. Now if I run the same test typing my domain in without the extension it is on page 5. If I look at my keyword ranking they are on page 5.

It can take some time... I have a client in a VERY competitive industry and because it has KEYWORD in domain name it's ranked #8 even for exact search with or without the domain extension.

So, no, it's not a penalty. Just build some backlinks for it and you should take over the exact match pretty easy.

It could be a sign of a penalty. I have the same thing with one of my website. Before I could just type my sites name and it'd be in the first place, but now after I got a penalty for crap backlinks and duplicate content, I'm not even near first page. I used to be on page 1 but now I'm on page 5 for most of the keywords.

I think it could be - especially as you said it used to appear on page one.

    I won't call it a penalty...

You will see many exact matching domains in the search results.
You just focus on optimizing your website for target keywords... If you are getting traffic through keywords, there is no need to worry about other minor things like this.
