So I was working on a project with a company and part of they way through doing it they changed my contract. See the thing is they never told me that they were changing how much I would be payed. They told me they wanted something else done and I agreed to that but not to a cut in pay. Are they allowed to do this or is there some rule against it? I'm from the US(the company is too) and I know both parties have to agree before a pay cut can happen but is this true?

I would contact a lawyer or reach out to them first and ask why all of a sudden they are not willing to pay you what the contract states.

I figured I would ask around here first before I went to my lawyer. He charges by the hr while you guys are nice enough to help me out for free. They said they just don't think its worth that anymore but they should have told me before I finished the job. Thanks for all the help guys

no, they cannot unilaterally change the terms of the contract. otherwise all contracts would be useless.

Update time. I found out it is illegal to do. I started talking to the founder and CEO now who was a total ass to me. He actually didn't know what to say and just said that things were not done to his satisfaction so he had no reason to pay. Yet his employees signed off on the work so looks like I just beat a Stanford grad at debating and legal work. He is so out of options he only says take me to court. I'm pretty proud of myself today and looks like I will be in court soon. Thank you all for your help though.

Btw I loved this. I was thinking the same thing after I said it so I'm glad you called me out on it
