I'm pretty scared of over optimization seeing how my site is fairly new and I don't want it to be penalized at all/ever.

I've been trying to think of a content strategy that would be effective the last few days, but I don't know if I'm being too weak as far as SEO goes.

#1 Main Article ~ 1000 words 3-5 images with different alt variations of my keyword + a youtube video. Highest quality no generic purchases bullshit, just genuine great content that people will love to read.

    Weekly Cycle:

Monday - Post Youtube video related to keyword on my site and write a brief description maybe 200-300 words.
Tuesday - Add some pictures(20ish) to gallery with 1 sentence descriptions, (no idea what to do for alt tags I don't want to over optimize so I might just take a bunch of related keywords and use them)
Wednesday - ~500-600 word article related to original keyword. Going to use a related keyword in this content. Maybe 3-4 images in the post, none of them will be related to my other keyword but will be related to my niche.
Thursday - No Idea (Suggestions welcome)
Friday - No Idea (Suggestions welcome)
Saturday - Sunday - New Content

Repeat process for ~ a month or until I run out of content I can post. How often should I be using keywords related to the one I'm trying to rank for? I was thinking maybe using 1 or so LSI keyword per 500-600 word article and youtube snippet. And using a bunch of LSI keywords for alt tags on the gallery but never repeating.

Should I be more aggressive with content? Does this look like a solid strategy? My idea is always to be working on new content as well as posting a little fresh content on old content.

Perhaps one day just commit to backlinking / social? If you've got nothing else then set up drip articles. You could probably write more content on Friday. There's always off-site SEO you can do.
All-in-all this seems like a good strategy, but remember to be active and regular about it.

    Nilomas,

After reading your entire post, I think you really nailed your strategy down, both with what you are doing and what you said here "My idea is always to be working on new content as well as posting a little fresh content on old content."

First, you are publishing a regular stream of content on your site
Second, you are refreshing the existing content where it is needed.
Third, you are incorporating content that varies by media, ie text content, images and video.

For the remaining days of the week, here are some other things to consider

    - Use infographics for a post that will really capture your users interest
    - Podcast your content on Thursdays - Review the content you have created and then talk about it off the cuff.
    - Weekly Wrap up of all content created that week... This will have multiple uses in refreshing, updating and creating content that is curated each week.

I am sure there is much more you could do, but this is a good start to consider.

Let me know if this helps!

    Shawn

Exactly the reassurance I needed man thank you! The podcast idea is awesome, and I will probably do it I can even take news that's going on throughout the week since my niche is quite active. I never really thought about it! I can update my visitors via soundcloud and my site even has integration with it! Only problem is that I'm not a very social speaker, but I'm sure it's just something I'll have to get use to.

I'm going to absolutely try and not over optimize as it's something I tend to do on a regular basis. 1 related keyword per 500-600 article. My optimization will be mostly off page as my niche is not so competitive the keyword I'm trying to rank for right now has around 90k exact searches a month with the highest position having 40 or so backlinks and really bad onsite SEO the only thing they have is content and not even a variety of it really just articles.
