Content or design, which one should come first?

There’s always a huge dilemma on which should come first when building a new website.

I myself like to start with the design and then “fill in the blanks” as I go along.

I’m interested in knowing what other people do, specially when outsourcing both copy and design to different freelancers.

So, which one do YOU do first?

Design is created for specific content, but how this content will be located can not be determined without design. This is a very tight interaction! First, the marketing goal, then design and after filling in the relevant content.

Start putting content first and let it index and age.

You will have plenty of time for design before you start getting visitors.

I always ask for content first. But if the client dont have content I design with dummy content.
1) Content first : smooth and sequential website building process
2) Design first : more time and work and more revisions

ps: Avoid clients who want you to copy a website design they like. Most of the time they will not have content.
