contact form 7 spam prevention

Not sure if this will help... But... I setup last night "Contact Form 7 Image Captcha" WP-Plugin... So far i havent recieved a single Spam message.... I was used to getting 20s of them every few hours from some random-ass ips... Hope that helps..

This looks good, thanks.

If you're getting the "This is an absorbingoblation pro you" and "This is an importantcash prize for win" spam, then what cleared it up for me was to remove and reinstall all plugins after updating WordPress to its newest version.

That's a great example of a captcha that's really easy to bypass but it will probably stop a lot of spammers just because it's not common enough for anybody to account for it.

I also added it in some sites of myself the reCaptcha v3 and I saw it displays a message (in the Google reCaptcha console) about it needs to analyze more traffic to work well. I have installed them in some new sites with very few visits (just to test it before adding to my main sites) but maybe it is happening to you, maybe it needs to work for a few days to record the users behaviour before working fine.

try using keycaptcha
bots cant read that (yet)

Checking the demo it appears not to work from mobile (iPhone). Can’t move the puzzle pieces.

Check if the spam comes from the same ISP/ASN and block their IPs, that should help.

Contact Form 7 is one of the most effective and popular WordPress plugins for adding a contact form to your website. And I certainly recommend it in my Best WordPress Plugins Checklist, that I give away to my email subscribers.

Crush Contact Form 7 Spam
It’s a great little plugin that is simple to setup, adapt to most any purpose and start getting emails from your website. Once your website has been found and targeted by spammers, you will often find yourself getting anything from
  • a few a day
  • to many an hour (like a client of mine recently)
And not only are these emails often frequent, but they are hard to stop unless you know what techniques you have at your disposal.

I am also using this plugin, never had spam problems until the recent update - now I get hammered.

I start digging a little bit on Recaptcha v3 and as @Naulex said I think it needs a few days/ weeks to analyze the traffic IPs of visitors before giving them a score.

"reCAPTCHA learns by seeing real traffic on your site. For this reason, scores in a staging environment or soon after implementing may differ from production. "

From WP Support forum: "There is now an update that addresses this problem, just update your CF7 as soon as you can" I've did the CF7 update minutes ago. Lets see how it goes :) Fingers crossed

I have now updated to latest version of CF7. I have got akisimet working now as well - adding in the akisimet tag into the contact form AFTER the placeholder tag was breaking the form, when I added it before placeholder tag it worked.

I have also set up a 7 day trial of cleantalk. So now I have recaptcha3, akisimet and cleantalk running together. I am going to give it 7 days and see how its working after that. If that fails, I will try CF7 image captcha as recommended.
