I thought it was easy to get SSL for my domain, i want to setup a viral app and want to monetize with cpa offer & also need for another website of mine. So for that purpose i went to get SSL for my domain, already had an SSL from my friend, then simply activated but still was not working. Contacted hosting provider (hostthename) they said:

"For SSL certificates your domain must:

1- Be the cpanel Main domain. In this case the domain you can install SSL on is:dirxxxxxw.com
2- Have a Dedicated IP. Dedicated IP are only $19.99 per year

Once you have these two things you'll be able to install a SSL certificate."

So do i really need all this? I've a shared hosting so is there need to move towards big packages?

Shared hosting can still have dedicated IP. But yes, a dedicated IP is needed.

You can just get a dedicated ip for your shared hosting, the package isn't to actually move to dedicated hosting thats much more expansive. There is no other option to get it any cheaper really, you have to do it this way. I don't understand how your friend gave u an SSL, you have to get it from a company and submit a few documents, or certify your website via a file upload.

Lol i didn't mean that, offcourse this ssl was issued by a vendor what i meant was he was not using his bought SSL (unactivated), and he gave me login details for going through all those steps/process to attach it with my domain. Ok alright i'll get it..
So what about "Cpanel Main domain" thingy? if i want to activat another SSL for some other domain what i'll do then?

u just buy another dedicted ip for that particular domain, and buy another ssl, you can get different types of ssl that cover multiple domains, or obviously just cheaper ones that handle 1 domain. Check what kind your friend has bought, and with who, and check their terms for that particular certificate.
