I put my blog through a website grader and it said that I should change my writing style. According to them "the approximate level of education necessary to read and understand the web page content is graduate school level. "The content should be made to be simple so that a majority of the target audience can understand it. " Is that true? My life is screwed up and I am not doing this to earn money right now but if I decide to really try to make money off of it do I have to write dumber? My sister has cancer and I am taking care of her but eventually I would like to write articles for other people's blogs should I be concerned?
It depends on what your blog is about. For instance, If it was a political blog, it is expected that the writing be at a higher level because a majority of people reading political blogs consider themselves intelligent. And they will attempt to argue intelligently. However, if it was a sports blog, the posts or articles should be fairly simple to read and understand. Another example would be a blog writing book reviews- writing should be at a higher level. A blog about guitar playing-shouldn't be difficult. Those are just a few examples.
Thank you. I appreciate your help. The website suggested writing at a 10th grade level. It will be interesting trying to revise my word usage.
I would take anything an automated grader fed you with less than a grain of salt. If you want an honest opinion about your writing style and content level, feel free to PM me an example article. As mentioned before, your content should fit your audience in both style and subject so it's a highly subjective process.
