I should start out by saying that I'm really a completely virgin webmaster. I've been trying to read as many threads articles and information as I can to drive traffic to my newly created site, but I'm having a bit of difficulty.

So far, my understanding is that Search Page Rank Position (SERP) as well as PageRank (PR) are both dependent on the amount of backlinks, otherwise known as clickable links on other pages that lead to yours. I have started placing links to my site in both my signature, as well as trying to comment on an many blogs as possible, including the address of my website when doing so. I use sites like Ping-O-Matick, StumbleUpon, Reddit.com, and a few others after I complete a post, to try to increase exposure.

My performance, as tracked by Google Analytics, thus far has been somewhat laughable. Site has been live since about the beginning of the month, and I have only 500 unique visitors, with only 8 AdSense clicks. While the main goal of the site isn't to make money (ergo, only a few ads on the page), I would like to get a few more people to read.

I'm pretty much open to any suggestions. How can I alter my site (minor changes, not looking for a redesign), and what actions can I take to drive traffic to my site. Any help you can give me would really be appreciated.

500 unique hits for a new site isn't too bad.
