Thought I'd share a little experiment with you guys.

My main business is whitehat seo for clients in the Dutch market. I wouldn't even dream of sending any links like this. I do find it important to know exactly where the ‘boundaries' lie. How can I ensure a client that I can play it completely safe without having burned at least 100 domains in various ways. I think experimentation is the key, I find it important to know what kind of stuff gets you penalized, what causes that ‘magical' trigger to go off to inflict the wrath of cutts. I usually have about 5-10 projects like this on the side of my main work. The main problem, that I can't spend much time on them, is also a kind of good thing.

Of course, the main benefit of these experiments is that I always run them in fairly competitive niches in which there is essentially money to be made. Over the course of many failures and many tweaks, I have made nearly all my experiments profitable. In the beginning I was happy if I got my captcha and domain costs back before plumetting to -500. Now each experiment is a small money making project in its own right especially the one I will discuss here. When I notice that a certain technique is profitable I start running multiple experiments trying to copy and refine the tactics on new sites.

I really have lots of ‘kinds' of experiments. Sometimes I will only use social + xrumer spam, other times I will outsource 1000 manual, handwritten forum posts + SB blasts. This is just one experiment of many.

My main motivation for sharing this case study with you guys is :

    • Demonstrate that ranking sites with pure and agressive spam is still possible
    • Demonstrate that one page sites can still rank for competative keywords
    • Demonstrate that crappy content can rank
    • Creative outlet for my linkbuilding experiment ;D

Because of lack of time and n00bness in that area, I haven't really been tracking or doing any split testing or conversion optimization. If anyone has any advice in that area : I would love to hear it.

First I will give you guys some information about the domain, niche and timeline.

    Code:
    niche : make money online
Main keyword monthly searches : 60K
Keyword difficulty : Reasonably hard (pretty much a battlefield)
site : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.nl (not EMD but something like : moneyonlinefastnow.com)
    site online : 11 juli
Backlink campaign started : 13 aug
First organic traffic : 18 aug
Affiliate links live : 21 sept
Promoted product : €60,- ebook, €50,- commission (Dutch clickbank like site)
Ebook is a general, broad internet marketing course. Nothing special but it has a nice squeeze page and has a high EPC on the affiliate net work.
Also as experiment, top right tab will be displaying a second ebook, €30 commission.
    Money earned from 21 sept : € 580

    Invested :
    Content : €15
Theme : previously owned (think its 50$)
    Captchas : €15
    Domain : €3
    Time : +- 3 hours

Target audience : Dutch users looking for information about making money online
Goal : get them to click through to my affiliate offer, they should get off my site ASAP.

    The site :
    Code:
    CMS : wordpress

    Theme : Platform pro

Plugins used : Yoast SEO plugin

    [LIST]
[*]Made it so that only 1 page is indexed, de-index all category, tag, archive and date pages, you dont want any of that BS being indexed.
[*]Make sure you have your affiliate offers at the top, In my case the three top tabs are 3 different offers, with 2 linking to my main offer and the on on the left trying a second one.
[*]The embedded video is ripped from the affiliate YT site and uploaded on my own, the call to action text is written by myself, its only about 200 words.
[*]I hide my ‘crap' content in the tabs below, far out of site of potential visitors.
    [/LIST]

This is the actual site, blurred for obvious reasons :

The ‘crap' content + onpage :

    The links :

    Anchor texts + content

When I was getting 50 +- visitors per day ( I noticed a bit too late) I stuck the affiliate links on.

Organic traffic has come through 451 different related keywords

I am now ranking for a huge amount of long tail keywords and have even gotten into the top 20 for quite a few big money ones too. #6 for a 14k and #12 for a 60k.
In my other experiments I just increased the spam.

Most of the sites are still doing quite well, the ones that dropped had something changed on them. (I sold one and the owner removed all the content, it got hit last update, also didn't continue linkbuilding. He was aware that it was a blackhat site btw). Over the last few updates, I've gained ranking each time.
    This

In the case of experiment : I'm buying some PR5 homepage links to beef it up, hopefully I can get into the top-5 for the 60k keyword.

I am now sitting on about 100-130 unique visitors per day, there was a 180 spike a few days ago.
    Referring domains ahrefs : 700
    backlinks ahrefs : 15000

Will make an ahrefs screenshot tomorrow, its not letting me login at the moment. I'll also upload some ranking graph screenshots although I didnt start tracking from the beginning.

Conclusion : you can still rank a 1 page BS site in a competitive niche (60k is maybe medium in the united stated, but theres still money to be made there) with just spam directed at your money site. Even in this post-panda/penguin period.

Why this technique is succesfull imo :

Huge amount of text in combination with lots of different anchor texts
    50+ different kind of links

If anyone has any questions, fire away.

    P.S (edit)
Please do not PM me asking for info on the two undisclosed tools and/or asking if I would like to do SEO for you. Answer to both is no.

Great Share, thank you. One question though, is your sites only on Dutch language?
I'd like to figure out if this can only work for non-English sites.

I've tried similar experiments in less competitive niches for the English language, kinda the same results. Huge amount of longtail variety. Most of my experiments are for google.nl though. I know people that target the US market like this though but on a larger scale. I haven't used Xrumer for instance.

Isn't this asking for a google ban or page de-ranking?

Very nice, I'm guessing you will get hit during the next update but maybe not. Pretty sweet you already made some money back on it. I think burn and turn is working well now.

Great share :) But the latest EMD updates didnot affect non-English sites...Am I correct? Do you think that could be the reason for your ranking... No offence.. You are doing an awesome job, just wanted to know how effective this will be for English websites

Half of the domains in this niche are EMD's in some way, my one wouldn't even be considered a 'true' EMD. Eventually all EN updates get rolled out on other languages too, I was expecting to get hit any moment from about aug 24 but for some reason Google has been playing it cool with me. All my other experiments using this technique have only gotten stronger over the course of the last few months. Even my English spam emd's.

I have seen this work for English as well. A lot of persons beleived panda ended the good ole spam to the top technique. I have found that panda will still take a liking to this technique, with varying anchor text being highly important.

    Thanks for the detailed guide!

no offence op but the competition for dutch searches must be very small , so really 10 good links would be like having hundreds of good links for a more competative market . i could rank with spam in bangledesh but why would i ?

You are underestimating Dutch traffic comparing it to Bangladesh ;P You are also underestimating Dutch competition, even though we are a few years behind compared to BHword regarding blackhat tactics, the seo/IM world is pretty vicious and competitive.

Most of the sites in the top 10 have been sitting there for a few years, all legit PR backlinks. #1 for the 60k keyword is a PR4 with 30k backlinks (700 referring domains, related sites, own network, articles) Dutchies also have a lot more money to spend than people from Bangladesh and even US imo. Value per user is extremely high, this goes for all western European countries.
