Hey guys I've been lurking the forums for over a year and recently decided to make an account. I've learned a lot from reading through the threads and have a quick question.

I'm doing some backlink research on a site that is ranking higher than me in a low-competition keyword. They only have 1 backlink that is a 301 redirect from goo.gl

I've never seen this before so my question is how exactly does this work?

I know you can spam a link shortener with thousands of backlinks to rank parasite pages like Youtube and Web 2.0, but they're using it on their main money site. Any idea on what they're doing?

I checked the backlinks for the url shortener, it only has 5 links pointing to it from reddit posts related to the site.

Then thats not it. They probably have PBN links that are hidden.
