So the first result for my keywords only has a little over 100 back links for his domain on;
http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker

To me this seems like a really low number, like I could go to most of the sites he's listed on and get backlinks there as well, in one day pretty much. Is it that easy? Or does he have a lot more then what it's showing me there?

Thanks very much.

Does the keyword have high search volume? try using http://www.google.com/sktool/# to see. Depends where his links are from, if they are authority sites like bbc then he won't need many...

74,000 exact searches. does anyone know a better source or way to find which backlinks a site has? I'm sure a lot of us could make use of it!

Most of the sites they are back linked to aren't very incredible. Mostly just article submission, business submission and forums. i was like "wow what. the. fuck..."

How can I increase my backlinks? What is the easiest and cheapest way to get backlinks?

beaconsfield, use the search function. You can do directory submissions, xrumer blasts, scrapebox blog commenting etc etc but be assured that if it's easy or cheap it probably isn't worth your time

They are probably using another domain for links. My competitor has very weak 100 links and is first. He is outranking sites with 5K+ links.

use the links in this thread and put in your competitors domains. look where they are posting and follow suite.

you should literally do it to fifty of the top domains for your keyword and other similar keywords - and you'll have huge lists of places to submit to. but don't submit crazy like just in one day, spread it out and maybe do 1-5 a day so it looks to google, that your site is getting popular and viral thanks to visitors, not you.

if you do 100 a day and just stop, google will know you're just spamming backlinks and wont be as nice to you.

also, keep the same anchor text for all the backlinks if you can.

if your keyword is, dog treats for example. you always want the anchor text to be

PHP:
Dog Treats

or

PHP:
<a href="http://www.yoursite.com">Dog Treats</a>

though sometimes you can only show http://www.yoursite.com which is fine.
