    Dear Friends,

Today I open this topic as a report for my new site 4dollarjobs as a competitor with the well-known Fiverr

I have spent $99 for source code, $8 for domain, $20 for buying some facebook and twitter promotion, $100 for hosting. Total is $230.

The main idea that I decided to spend this amount of money is that:

At Fiverr: buyers pay $5, sellers gain $4, Fiverr gains $1

At my site: buyers pay $4, sellers gain $4, I gain $0

So, the same jobs, but cheaper price.

How can I live? OK, I will earn money by Adsense.

This is a very difficult starting. However, I'll follow my plan. I am ready to spend about $500 more for promoting my site.

I will report my site progression here for you all to have an idea about this way of money making.

    Cheers,

You said you would earn money via adsense but if your site got big enough then you could sell advertising spots etc.

good luck with your project, but there are at least 30+ fiverr like sites which operates now and none of them can come anywhere near fiverr (it doesn't matter if it offers cheaper or higher prices as well)

honestly i wouldn't bother with your site as a seller, because i get $4 ish/sale on fiverr too and there's good buying traffic

if you won't have sellers, you won't have gigs and you want have buyers

you need to do a hell of a SEO job and paid advertising, if you want to somewhat compete with fiverr and you need to figure out something original, something more than just offering gigs for $4 and paying sellers $4, it's kinda weak in my opinion, i know this is the hardest part, but this will decide about your success or failure

ask carsonrathi, he was the owner of zeerk, which is one of the most successful clones out there and after a few months he already sold it (idk the exact background, but i assume it wasn't as successful as he planned)

There's a huge problem with this endeavor, unfortunately, and it's pretty hard to overcome. The problem being, of course, Fiverr. Fiverr is a huge, established, well-designed website that people know about--and trust. It has a huge userbase that is constantly referring new people to the site. What do you have?

    a $1 discount for buyers

So, your website will have a whopping $1 difference from a well-established respectable company. People will come over in droves wanting to use your services, right?

Unfortunately, there is NO benefit in this for sellers. People don't like changing it up when it comes to what "works" for them, and Fiverr offers security and familiarity to sellers who are used to their system. It's a good interface, it's a good deal, and it's become a sort of online family of commerce to a lot of people.

If you want to compete with something like Fiverr, you have to really try to bring something totally unique and amazing to the table--something much grander and impressive than a $1 discount for buyers.

why not make it $5 and give the whole $5 to the seller, thatll make it more worthwhile for sellers to give it a try, more sellers will help bring more buyers etc etc

I paid for something at workforten.com as I thought I wanted to diversify but even though the seller never acknowledge it, I can't get my money back even after a few months. So for me after the bad experience, I decided I'll just stick to fiverr. No more clones for me.

People don't like fiverr clone, and me too. None of fiverr clone have success or get traffic close to fiverr traffic. People don't like clone, that is important. You got the money, better bring new uniques ideas like fiverr does. Please don't use same interface or anything close to fiverr. Fiverr success because they have unique ideas, then people stealing their ideas by making clone, failed. But look at nearly 30 fiverr clones that are not success. Fiverr deliver great interface, no ads, easy communication, and great support, they deserve kudos.

By the way, good luck OP, that is my opinions, no offence.

Thank you very much for your comments.

It is not easy to make something REALLY DIFFERENT from a successful idea.

I do understand that $1 less than Fiverr is not much different. However, if you here want to buy 1 thing for $5 while you definitely know that it is selling $4 at another site, which one will you choose? WHY NOT the $4?

how do we definitely know? i mean how do you want to let the people know that your site is better than fiverr? you'll need hell of a promotion to achieve this

and even if we'd definitely know what you say, there's still one thing against your site (what others already said above):
it's a new site with no history, fiverr has an established reputation
sellers def won't go from fiverr for a few cents higher profit to your site, buyers may go, but if there will be almost nothing to buy, they won't go either

i'm not against your site or anything like that, i just listed my concerns why this idea most probably won't work in this exact form, at least not on that level what you have in mind now however i like your basic idea to monetize the site other than commissions

    Good luck.

I will say that you have an uphill battle in front of you.
Fiverr has the first to market advantage over your site.

They established how this model works. And everyone else
    is playing catch up.

I think if you're going to compete with fiverr you need to push it hard and still take money from the transactions. As a seller, why do I want adsense ads talking about the same service I'm going to provide on a site I'm offering work on? I know if it was something I was going to do I would probably look for a few investors and go all out with a project like that. If you can get the sellers you'll get the buyers.

try ordering a gig on fiverr to promote ur site :p
idk if its against Fiverr ToS - but I don't think so..

would be good to get the top guy's on fiverr coz they have alot of services to put on ur site.. and most of them have good youtube channels, facebook page, blogs etc... in which they promote their gigs.

i think this could work but there are just a few things you should consider:
At first i invest 4 dollar on your page to get a new logo done because yours is ugly! sry no offense...
It just doesnt look very trustfull. And thats the second point. I think the great success of fiverr and the failure of all the clone sites is that the people trust fiverr, to get their gig done or the money back and for this security they are willing to pay 1$ more. You should focus on that and present (maybe even on the frontpage instead of this nice but saying nothing picture)how you are dealing with scammers and what security you have to offer for buyers.

    just my two cents ;)

they don't really a big fan of their clones, so you'd bet they would not like too see a clone promoted on their site
if you'll get caught, you'll be banned, however you can make disposable accounts for this purpose :)

What about a clone of fiverr in german? Germany has a relativly high population, and if there aren't any clones already it could work. Althought it would be much harder without speaking the language :/
I was actually thinking of creating a fiverr clone in my native language, unfortunately not many ppl speak it, and they don't really use paypal either :/

i bought twentyerr and have often thought of doing a fiverr but with $20 ones. the products/services would definitely have to be worth the substantially higher cost (five bucks being reasonable).

    any thoughts?
