Hi everyone, I've signed up with a company that provides prepaid debit cards. I entered in all of my information including social security number (SSN), and then immediately after I did I got an email saying that I need to provide a copy of both my signed Social Security Number and government ID card.

Is this generally safe to do? I feel like they can do some damage with both of these documents, but I'm not sure if this is a typical request in these kinds of companies/situations. The company has been around for awhile and has mixed reviews in regards to its trustworthiness.

Am I just being overly paranoid, or would this be a red flag for you?

If it's a reputable provider of prepaid cards, then it's ok to provide the information they have requested. I've dealt with Entropay and they recently started asking for ID upload right after registration. I know that the company is not fake, and it's ok to provide the data. Do a Google search for the company you're registering with, and if it seems reputable to you, go ahead and provide what they're asking for - the reason they do it is usually anti money-laundering.
