When I was setting up our company blog originally, I figured it was a good idea to put a link to my main company site in the sidebar so that anyone viewing my blog would easily be able to get to the main site.

However, after implementing that, i noticed hundreds of links popping up, from what looks like not only the link i placed in the sidebar, but also from blogrolls of other users in the blog network.

I've read up on sitewide links and it seem there is no answer as to weather they're good or bad. You hear opinions on all ends of that spectrum... so at this point i don't know what to do. It'd be handy to keep them there for navigation purposes, but i can't stand the clutter!

What do you guys do in this situation?

Go with functionality, keep them there. If you don't want to be penalized, then just nofollow them. But if your a legit business and you take it away you could lose a lot of potential customers if they can't get to where they want to. Just my opinion.

This seems like a good idea... i wish i knew if google would penalize me for it (or if these links gave any benefit in the first place), but it's better safe than sorry!

Thanks for your input.
