You'll need to elaborate a bit more about what exactly your trying to achieve, but 'assuming' your target market is mainly UK and you want to rank in g@@gle.co .uk, then you've got 2 basic options:

    1. Keep the site hosted in the USA (on reliable, fast servers) and set the location in Google Webmaster Tools.
    2. Move the site to a reliable UK host.

SERPs are fine on US servers.

I dont think there has been an in-depth studies on effects of SERP results with regards to hosting.

The advantages you have with a UK host is if your customers are from the UK site load time will be faster. Also you get UK support and generally a more personal support.

It matters in regards to site speed, however if your load time is fine then should be too much of an issue.

Just ensure the site's meta content is <meta name="country" content="United Kingdom"> or something of that ilk

Are you from the UK? From what perspective are we talking? If SEO then there is zero difference where you host your website, as long as you have your site set up with the webmaster tools and have the targeted location set, I can tell this, I have several sites in the US targeting totally other and non-English countries. If from speed for the UK users, it's going to be a tad slow but it's ok if you have a static site (e.g informational site). If from costs and taxes, I think you're excluded from paying VAT since the provider is outside of the EU, I'm not sure about this though.

I don't think the location of the servers matters that much. If your site is exclusively for UK users then load times will be faster from a UK server though.

    Thanks all for your helps.

I was worried about the Tax issue and the SEO issues that could raise.

I am in UK (but french so sorry for my english).

In Google Webmaster Tools should I set the location on United States (since my main targeted customers (CPA) are there)?

What about the tax issue are you worried about? You don't pay as much tax when you're purchasing from the USA since you don't have to pay VAT but the prices really don't vary that much between countries.

I have my uk sites on Hostgator and my server is in Houston. I also host site on 1and1 with a server in Milton Keynes.

I haven't seen any real difference in either regarding ranking

Having a .co.uk domain definitely helps with ranking on google.uk but as long as you set country to UK in webmaster tools it doesn't really matter where you host your site.
