I recently received a comment on one of my tech blog sites which I haven't touched since March 2008 and it wasn't even spam. I don't get the point of it but the post was about the site being under maintenance and someone just posted a comment saying "This is great info to know." and a link in his user name to his blog. I don't understand why he has done this since the site doesn't even have a PR rating, is this anyhow useful to him? Bad to me? lol

It isn't bad to you at all. It won't really help him that much. He was probably just going around (spamming maybe) and hit your blog. Go ahead to his blog and do the same, it only makes sense.

There is no real harm to him commenting. He is just looking for backlinks. If you have a standard wordpress they are all no-follow anyways.

If anything it helps you. Google will find that post and now it has been updated.
    No worries :D
