    Hi all,

I keep reading that top level domains (TLD) are easier to rank keywords for than non TLD, but no explanation is given. Does anyone know the answer?

    Thanks

It depends, I haven't noticed much difference but I have noticed that conversions on a .com domain is less than they are on a .co.uk domain when ranked in Google.co.uk

Depends on what you want to do.

For example, if you want to rank in giggle. co. uk, then a .co.uk domain will give you a slight ranking 'push', compared to a .com, but not much. If you do a search in giggle. co. uk for "acai berry", page 1 has 6 .uk secondary TLD's and 3 .com's.

The other thing mentioned: "conversions"; it's likely there is a trust element involved with a UK target market, and they're more inclined to click on a .co.uk than a .com.

Other factors are competition and niche.

They're both pretty much just as easy to rank.

I would recommend the use of Geo Specific domains if you wish to rank in a particular region. Although, .com seems to always be one of the top choices.

I have an EMD that ranks #2 on google.com and #14 on google.co.uk.

.co.uks definitely get a push in the UK search results

Thanks to all for your replies, it all makes sense now. My .co.uk domain is ranking 1st page google.co.uk with a single senukex blast, and has stayed there since. On google.com it's in the top 100...somewhere...
