    Hi,

to dominante the google.com we use .com domains rather than .net/.org (even though they only rank a bit worse).

But what if you want to dominate a niche in Germany? Should I go for the .de version or is .com also ok? .de domains are double as cheap to buy but if they rank double as good....what do you think?

I always try to get the .de domain with the keyword. If it is not available I choose com/net/org. I even have a .tv ranking in Germany! In my opinion you'll get faster results if you choose a .de domain. But in the long run there is no real difference.

hey thanks...that's pretty much what I thought too...if you got time you can rank almost everything. But why are the .de domains double as much as .com domains? I simply understand that because some high-traffic sites like ezine etc. are .com domains.

Getting a .de domain will open you to all kinds of legal harassments like for example why is your server keeping logs or why do you have links that point to sites that link to boobs. And then you lose the domain and get slapped with a lawsuit. Just search the forum for local members with said cool experiences.

If you are ONLY marketing in Germany, I would do dotde, but if you hope to expand Internationally at some point, go with a dotc0m.
    For sure!

actually it's up to you, with .com you can geo target your visitors too, use goooooogle webmasters' tools. but i found that domain extension doesn't matter.

If you can get a .info, a .com, and a .de . All you need is one website and throw a 301 redirection on the other two domains

If you use blackhatmethods you don´t have a big choice...

I have some websites on .de for low competition keywords and things where i have to seem reliable.
My product review websites are international tld´s

private .de are not easy to get by, therefore you have to make sure you comply to every fucking silly rule in germany (it's ridiculous really).
Better get private .com domains, you can set the geotargeting to germany in webmaster tools, its the same thing.
