I was checking my emails and saw I had an email from someone I didnt know. the email was something like

    "Hello,

I was given your email by A (in this case A is an online friend I have) as he told me that you are dealing with internet marketing. I work at the governement and would like to get in touch with you, below is my number, let me know when we can meet"

At first I thought it was some kind of joke because you don't see every day an official from the government emailing you.

I called and a lady picked up the phone, I quickly introduced as the internet marketing guy and she was like excited. We arranged a meeting for the coming day.

The funny thing is she told me "do you know where the parliament is? when you are there call me so I can come and pick you up"

It was the first time for me entering the parliament and I was really excited.

Long story short, she was the counselor of the prime minister and she was looking for a training program. She had like a staff of 3-4 people dedicated to online social media for the prime minister but they didn't have a clue of what they were doing.

She quite frankly told me: "Are you willing to do a coaching program for us? Money is not a problem since this is quite important for us.

The best thing is that I went there for social media and when I told her about seo , reputation management and much more she was like OMFG! Basically I will close another deal later on for reputation management for the prime minister hehe

So my question is, since its a bit bizarre and even though she told me that money is not a problem, I don't want to scare the shit out of her. So what is a realistic price for a 10 hours mentoring for like 3-4 people? Each hour I will explain something different like starting from Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and so on for a total of 10 hours

Sound like an amazing story. I don´t know where you live but where I come from, the government hire larger well-known agencies for training.

Anyway, best of luck. How much to charge? No idea, it all depend on the country where you are at. Also, if you work professionally with IM, I am sure you have a fixed price list for seminars and training sessions?

    $1.5k / hour - that's what I'd charge. You're a specialist, remember ? ;)

Its a small country in Eastern Europe and to be honest I've never done seminars or training sessions offline, let alone for the government.

Internet Marketing over here is like never heard before and hence there is only one company which does internet marketing providing various services starting from seo / social media marketing and much more where I am part of :)

The funny thing about all of this story is that she asked me "with which political party are you" smiling and I immediately replied, with yours of course :D

@cristianraiber damn that's like too much imho don't you think so? Plus I don't want to burn bridges, I could even do this for free or for a minimal fee and in the long run to offer more services :)

I would say a fee of $250 to $350 per hour is reasonable since it is not easy to find someone in this type of field who is willing to do a coaching session like that. I don't think you should go over around $5,000. Be reasonable and realistic. Do you know how to use Powerpoint? If so, use LOTS of Powerpoint presentations. If you don't find someone to make lots of Powerpoint presentations for you.

Thanks KickFlip for your input, to be honest I was thinking of something similar, like 200 euros per hour which would mean E2k as a total

PS: Did you know that she asked me "Is there any way how to increase the fans on Facebook? :D rofl!

Yep that is a very reasonable price. Stick with that idea. Its not too big to scare them, and its big enough so they will think you are really a professional and its worth your time. As you said, you could make connections + bigger jobs with them in the future. Those are worth a lot.

Make sure to get a bomb-ass testimonial from them and have them allow you to use their name! You've hit a gold mine and I think even $500-700 per hour is not unreasonable. When she says "money is not a problem", she probably LITERALLY means, money is not a problem lol.

Kickflip is on point. I know a number of professionals in traditional business that do small time "consulting/training" on the side. They charge about $300-400 per hour for a 4 hour session, training a small group.

CONGRATS!!! Like others have said, this is a great opportunity to really over deliver on value and set yourself up for future projects.

If you can afford it, do it for free, and in return request that you get a Link on Official government link and maybe for future Online stuff in the government you put on top of the list of recommended providers.

Now this is a real business role model. IamNRE read my mind. (+2 reped)

If you go this way I would suggest you tell them the 'price' they would have to pay, so they will an ideea of how much the value. Make them feel/see the VALUE.

Hope you come back on bhw after you experience to share some thoughts and .gov links (kidding).

    Cheers

I second the idea of social media for the PM for free. Think about it, if you can handle the PMs social media then you could easily handle the cabinet and other MPs. I would then ask them to introduce you to all their party MPs so they can too take advantage of your services and expertise.

Actually you could probably do that even after charging them a lot. Asking for some links back to your website is awesome as well.

Ask them to be able to use them in references for future work etc.

Guys offering this for free or a low price under such client expectations might make her think the guy is not very professional. He can get more work from them and all the discussed benefits by offering them great work even if it is expensive.

I'm sure many of you still recommended an expensive service to others despite the fact that it costs more than the standard because it over delivers the results anticipated.

You can charge a premium and still get future work and everything that was discussed here.

Yes I do not recommend doing it for free. It really doesn't look good and doesn't benefit anyone. They have money and are prepared to spend it. They don't expect it for free and it won't make them sing your praises any higher. If you do it for a fair price, nothing too high nothing too low, that is the key. Remember: The money isn't coming out of their pocket personally most likely. In many cases, they NEED to look for things like this to spend money on because they have to justify all the money they get from donations etc. Also, if you give them a "regular price" it makes it easier for future jobs to know what kind of payment they would have to give you for other jobs.

Bingo! Sell VALUE not cost, if they pay you but they learn what they need to do then it was worth every penny.
Also if the facebook page does not look very good you have a chance to upsell later to do twitter/FB creation and fans/followers etc...

The main question is how are they going to pay.
    Does they use Paypal?
