I'm not British but I was thinking about trying .co.uk instead of .com for an online only niche. Can't get the EMD (exact match domain) here, but can get it in co.uk.

Anyone have EXPERIENCE with this? Opinions without experience are just brain farts.

You might find it a pain in the arse ranking in Google.com (anything other than google.co.uk) but only by a few places!

I have clients who are #1 in Google.co.uk but #8 in Google.com and I find thats because of the .co.uk domain

if you are uing it for a niche site it would work if you cant get the .com i always get.coms

The preference is you want rank globally is
1. .com
2. .net or .org

.co.uk is good if you want to rank in the go0gle.co.uk, and can work globally, depending on the competition.

Ye co.uk is excellent for ranking in google.co.uk. Check number of local searches (for UK) for that word in gkwt and see if there is enough, otherwise get net, org or info.

It will be very hard to get global visitors and better serp in google.com if you use co.uk. As it is country specific domain extension. Therefore only .com is the best if you want global visitors.

TLD is irrelevant for traffic.

Did you read your reply carefully?

The first question raise why everyone want high rank in google dot com. They want visitors/traffic therefore they want good rank in Google dot com. And you also giving preference to top TLD means it does matter for traffic.
