I saw a post yesterday talking about server locations helping with ranking. If your server is in the country you are trying to rank for it is better for your rankings.

What if the server is in the country but you are using Cloud Flare (CDN) and it shows up on reports such as Woorank that your server is in another country. Does this hurt your rankings or are the search engines (Google) smart enough to realize your on a CDN?

Mods, I didn't know where to post this so please move it is in the wrong category.

Can you post that thread so i can have a look please? I would say that it isn't really the server location that makes the difference but the actual speed of the results to the user that is getting taken into consideration, since they are connecting faster and staying longer. I want to look more into this.

As for the cdn, i would say yeah, they are defiantly smart enough, its probably not even considered. suddenly i would start ranking in japan for a certain keyword just because i now have a cdn there? doubt it. But if my site is relevant to that audience and the speed of webpage to the user is faster, then yes, should perform better.

One of my client used cloudflare to protect his website , as his website continuously hacked with sql injection. Client did not consult with me before using cloudflare. After using for 5 days client website loose all its ranking and till now it is not recovered, before using cloudflare for all keywords website is in top 1-5. But as google continuously updating algorithm, i am not sure this rank decrease due to cloudflare or for any other reason. But i did not see any other client website ranking decreases. Thats why i think may be it is due to cloudflare.

BP, when I get back to my main computer I will look for the thread. It was posted yesterday. About Cloudflare dropping all your rankings for your client MB, in my case I am moving up in rankings but not as fast as I expected. I suspect Google found some type of Malware on his site. Have you looked into that? I am just curious if I pull this site of the CDN will I get better rankings. I am close as some keywords are in the 10-20 range but seem to be stuck. I also don't want to pull off the CDN and have Google go into a drunken stooper.

I'm using Cloudflare on most of my websites. All of them were ranking well till date. I guess he lost his ranking not because using cloudflare but Google saw his site as malicious, prone to attack and lowered his rankings. If it's not ranking, then that means his site needs more link juice that are coming from relevant and high authority sites. There's also a high chance that it got hit by Panda or Penguin.

CloudFlare does nothing negative for your rankings, it increases the speed and reliability of your site. It will be hosted in a number of locations so will not indicate the country the website is meant for. This is why you would verify your website with G at an address in your targeted country.

I am using free cloudflare on most of my sites, and it does not affect rankings. However, I wonder about performance between free and pro. Anyone here have actual experience and can compare the free cloudflare and cloudflare pro performance? Are there any noticeable difference and is it worth going for cloudflare pro?
