If an affiliate heavy site has been ranking well for a while with uncloaked links and is subsequently dropped in the SERPs as a result of being too affiliate focused (as I suspect has happened), how long does it take to recover ranking (if at all?) if proper cloaking is applied to the links?

    Thanks!

If this were the case, I'd imagine a few weeks after a full re-crawl and reindexing which can take 4-6 weeks alone depending on how big your site is/how often you update content.

However, I've noticed a lot of blatantly obvious, uncloaked affiliate links ranking lately. In fact, I was looking up some over the counter sleep aid for personal use (like melatonin) and notice affiliate sites outranking the manufacturer, amazon, and wiki. One of the sites is literally just a massive picture and a link to buy the crap from an affiliate pill store.

    OK, thanks.

I'm not even sure if this is the reason for the downturn in search traffic? It dropped suddenly about 25 days ago. Could still be part of a prolonged dance as it is only just under 3 months old...
