I know more than one person who had their amazon account banned for cloaking their links. Do not do it.

Depends on your niche really, the average user won't even notice that it's a link to Amazon before they click it...

For what reason? I've never used a cloaker or plugin myself... But if you want a tidier link it's easy all you have to do is put a redirect rule in your .htaccess file:

Redirect 301 /get/shavers/ *affiliate link URL goes here*

That code above placed into .htaccess would redirect traffic from yoursite.com/get/shavers/ to the affiliate URL. No clunky plugins needed. The trailing slash matters though.

Cloaking Amazon affiliate links in general is against their OA and could lead to your account being terminated for life. However, their OA also states that you could use redirects as long as you clearly indicate on your website that a link point to amazon. For example, a cloaked link could have anchor text that includes 'amazon' in it, like 'click here to see amazon price' or you could use an image that indicates that your visitor will get to amazon website by clicking on it. I've seen plenty of people doing it, however, personalty I wouldn't cloak any of my links unless I run it by amazon and have some kind of written response from them that it is OK.

It will if you spam you page with affiliate links, it doesn't provide any value to your visitors, or is no more then a spun version of manufacturer description. It won't, if you place them where they belong and give your visitors more info than a generic manufacturer description.

This is new information for me. AFAIK amazon doesn't allow any cloaking method. Can you refer me to their operation agreement? which section mention it?

    Here you go:

    https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/help/t64/a1

"While you are welcome to use link shortening services, the link checker will not be able to verify that these links are functioning as intended. Please remember that you must clearly state that the link in question will take the user to the Amazon site when clicked and ensure that the site on which you are posting the links includes the required statement to identify yourself as an Associate. You must also be able to provide detailed information about the site(s) on which your links have been posted if we request it. "

As I said above, regardless what the OA says, to be on the safe side, I'd contact amazon explaining what I intend to do and get some kind of written confirmation from them stating that's OK.

And BTY, I don't cloak my links :)

So what's the reason you're cloaking? If it's to hide links from Google, and by cloaking you mean some kind of service that transforms the naked affiliate link to www.somedomain.com/aff1, it doesn't work. Google can of course see such a link. And adding nofollow tag doesn't help in case of Google either, the link is still there, isn't it?

EasyAzon is the most popular plugin to cloak but I have heard many people getting account banned from cloaking. EasyAzon might be somewhat acceptable though as it popups the name Amazon on hovering and also mentions it in most buttons. But I am not sure about it too.

Regarding overall cloaking scenario, I doubt that it is despised by Google. I see many of the top authority sites using and recommending affiliate url cloaking and they still rule the search engines.
