Recently, one of my client's websites went down due to web hosting maintenance issues. His website was down for a week. Before this happened, he was ranking on the 2nd page and nearly on 1st page for several major keywords in his industry within a month of me doing SEO for him.

After his website was back up and fully completed (it was still in the design phase when it was ranking on 2nd page and not all pages were done). I submitted a sitemap of his latest finished website, but he is still not back on Google. He's ranking on the 8th page now for some of the keywords where he ranked on the 2nd page, and he hasn't been put back up on any high spots despite the fact that he has over 400+ backlinks with keyworded anchor texts.

I am able to get every client ranked on the 1st page of Google for major keywords, yet this is the first time that I've had so much trouble getting Google to get this guy back up on prominent pages.

    Any suggestions?

^ He understands the situation full well. He's continuing the SEO in hopes that I get him back up on the 2nd page, I've just never seen this happen really. It was all very coincidental with his web hosting company having issues with his site exactly at the time when his site was peaking on Google.

I'm assuming that Google has some threshold of days before they can trust a website again to make sure it doesn't go down. Afterall, they don't want the website to show up on high pages again only to go down, it will look bad on them.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how long that process may take, because regardless of the fact his backlinks keep growing, he still isn't improving positionally.

Are you 100% sure that the 2nd page ranking was a real ranking and not just part of a dance?

I had a site that was not ranking about 8 months ago so I turned off the auto renew on it and about a month before it was to die, I checked it again and it was ranking #2 for it's main KW.

I forgot that I did not have it set to auto renew and along came the renewal date and it went away. I saw that the revenue from it stopped so I checked the domain and it was indeed off line.

It took a freaking week for my registrar to get it live again and the site of course dropped hard in the rankings so I did a bunch of SEO and after about 2 months it was back sitting in the #2 spot... I think you have some hope indeed.

Seems like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place... I agree with above though, give it some time.

Keep up the pace you had before and I think time should do the trick. I would suggest also adding some content. The Google algo can't get enough of it..
