preferably while keeping my current drive intact, anyone know if a simple defrag might take care of the problem?

lol, thanks for not blowing up at my little joke. I seem to recall a program called "FileShredder" I think it's called. I would not trust a simple defrag to remove it.

Personally I use PGP if I'm ever in the need to permanently erase any files.

    Link http://www.pgp.com/downloads/desktoptrial/desktoptrial2.html

or if you want to wipe your whole hdd and reinstall your o\s etc I would recommend Dban.

If you found this useful say thanks :)

There are many programs out there, just Google 'eraser' 'erase' etc, but be aware there is no 100% way to delete files, my son son works in I.T for the British Army and they defrag, erase (100 times), then physically destroy the hard drive, then incinerate whats left, can't be too careful eh!

Rofl...Wow... Somehow my activities have never concerned me enough to warrant physically destroying a hdd but handy to know I always assumed throwing lots of pseudo-random binary over files and renaming and rewriting it would be a pretty efficient way of covering up your tracks.
