    Hi,

    I need an advice.
I want to buy a domain of a specific city name and to rank high when looking for the city name on the search engines. The exact name is already taken and I am looking to buy something close to it.

I know that the words "hotel" or "accommodation" with the city name have many searches but this is not what I am looking for, I want to supply info about the city.

Did anyone ever set up a site like this? Can someone give me any advice more then the obvious ones?

    Thanks guys.

Are you looking to make a site for something along the line of "what to do when in CITY NAME". Since you mentioned you weren't looking for anything specific just go for the city name and a broad word. i.e. OklandTourism.com...

VisitCityName.com, CityNameTraveller.com, CityNameTour.com. There are lots more, you might want to use a domain name research tool for this so you'll be able to import a list of words and check the availability of the domain pretty fast. PM me for more info!

Thank you all again, I tried alot of things but it is a popular city...
I would like to continue brainstorming with you, it is a two words city (like new york) so what about:
    "country name"-"city name"? (example: USA-newyork.com)
"country name"-"first word of city"-"second word of city"? (example: usa-new-york.com)

or the other way around (city name first)
Is it smart to add the country name?

Having the keyword in the domain helps alot, but even if its not a EMD you can still get #1 rank if you spend enough time and work on it. Theres lots of city niche websites that the EMD is not ranked #1 and a varient is ranked higher. Find how many backlinks the #1 guy is,and get more. Also if they are using a static website like html, use wordpress for the site.

You could also try something like InsideCityname.com, CitynameTourist.com...

roparadise, I need some sort of EMD to fight the first page results as they are wikipedia and 2 gov's.

I will build more backlinks than them over time I did it many times in other niches and got to the first page but I am very new to this niche and need help brainstorming on the domain name.

So, would you recommend an non EMD domain? If so, why?

When i meant non-emd i meant an addition to the keyword and use that for the keyword. You can also edit wikipedia to get ahead of them.
