---- THREAD CLOSED 08/28/2015 ----
An ad here and a pitch there. By now I am sure you have been eye raped by several industries inundating you with their ads. They tend to like to show you more flash than facts. With buzzwords blazing, sexy girls making their services enticing, and ad money being spent to high heaven, they?re hoping to bait you in because they NEED you. This is a bad indicator and I am going to reveal the truth behind what I call chronic advertisers.
How to define someone as a chronic advertiser:
Before we go any further it is important to state that advertising is important and sure you want your voice to be heard tastefully, nevertheless ?chronic advertisers? rely on a new crop of clients and they accomplish this by having to push coupons one after another along with distastefully pushing ads in front of your eyes.
Why should you think twice before doing business with them?
Simple! Their business models are chaotic and most likely aren?t satisfying their current client base. That means they are in need of a fresh crop of clients to milk on the regular basis. They operate a business model much like a revolving door. Clients come in while a line goes out. The hope is they can successfully turn a profit. Client retention means nothing to them as long as the client AKA Cash Cow stays around long enough to recover the ad money plus profit.
Are you saying that legit companies aren?t noticeable?
No. Let me put it this way. Companies that have happy clients aren?t always heavily advertising for more since their organic growth has kicked in properly. Once you have enough satisfied clients as a business you will notice that word of mouth marketing tends to keep a healthy growth rate. Sure those companies still advertise, but you can tell that it?s not the driving force behind their operation.
This is a positive indication that the company is providing services that their clients are happy with. Unlike ?Chronic Advertisers? they don?t have to advertise to see positive growth. A perfect example would be your typical by the book Facebook marketing campaign for a local business. The screenshot below will show you exactly what I am talking about.
As you can see at one time a local business relied on advertising for post reach, but as time went by their organic growth cycle started and active advertising decreased. It?s normal for a start up to advertise a lot so that they can enjoy branding effects. Over the years though if a company still has to hustle their company through media space or other ad strategies then something is clearly wrong.
This Applies to most industries, but some more than others:
Normally services that employ a monthly subscription model should become less dependent on ?Chronic Advertising? than one time services or product sales. For example a car dealership selling cars will only have the client one time until years go by. Odds are that client will not even remember the great service or fair prices they enjoyed, therefore you always see good old Crazy Dan pimping cars via radio and TV ads. It makes sense right? Of course! Now does that same business model apply to say an SEO Agency? I think not! Those clients should enjoy a return on their investment.
So I say unto you, before you buy a service, please stop and think whether or not this service or company has a business model that creates a long term client to business relationship, or are they just trying to make you their bitch for a couple of months? Look into the owner?s history and the company culture before you buy anything. Think about it this way. Agencies that rely on sexy, lustful marketing techniques are insulting your intelligence with the belief that they will sell you, the business owner, a product or service based solely on marketing gimmicks. Sex sells, but it should not be the marketing technique for real B2B relationships.
If you operate a Casino then sure go for it! You will never see professional services like Law firms or dentist offices appreciating these tactics.
