Well duh! Black Hats have known this for a very long time. Ever since Chrome came out, in fact. When I first tried it, it suggested URLs I had visited while logged into Gmail on Firefox.....Chrome had a brand new history, how did it know what I did on the other browser? That was my first realization of what Chrome really was. I have never installed it since. But the news is it's going mainstream. It's all over Reddit and the media will pick this up soon.

TL;DR, Popular Google Chrome extensions are constantly tracking you per default, making it very difficult or impossible for you to opt-out. These extensions will receive your complete browsing history, all your cookies, your secret access-tokens used for authentication (i.e., Facebook Connect) and shared links from sites such as Dropbox and Google Drive. The third-party services in use are hiding their tracking by all means possible, combined with terrible privacy policies hidden inside the Chrome Web Store.
The Detectify team has identified how they are doing it and what options you have to avoid being affected by it.

I'd like Google Chrome to update its policy so that it says "By using Chrome, you agree to be spied on, because fuck you." I think a lot more people will opt to use it just because of their blatant honesty.

Why not use other browsers? Like Opera, Firefox.

Then they have pictures of you in the most peculiar situations. You ever wonder why that camera light turns on apparently for no reason?

I dont do anything with chrome. Its a resource hog and it tracks everything you do even behind vpns, cookie blockers, etc.

Not surprising, but some chrome users I've talked to said you can turn off all tracking from chrome. I haven't had it installed for a very long time on pcs. I can't uninstall it from android though, so i use firefox instead there too.

Debian has iceweasel(debian fork of firefox). Firefox is also putting up a lot of shady bullshit lately, like their new tab ads.

Anything Google is spying on you bro.. doesn't that "Ok, Google" on Android make you nervous? Knowing that your phone is listening, at ALL times?

Firefox, Maxthon... there are a ton of browsers that aren't Chrome or IE. And there are a TON of free emails people can use that aren't Gmail, Live, or Yahoo, or Hotmail.
