choosing the right anchor / keyword

    how google see for example 'cakes' and 'cake'? let say cake has 30,000 search volume a month and cake has 25, 000. will u treat them as both different keyword? I'm confused when it come to choosing the right anchor for link building.

    I think you need to look in the google keyword tool which one is getting more searches.Plural is often used by the buyers and G users.When I search for "buy mobile phone" and "buy mobile phones" I'm served up with different results.use plurals is better than singular as its been used widely.
