To those who say "why not just say teen?"

If it was a Canadian teen, it would say "Canadian teen".
If it was an Indian teen, it would say "Indian teen" or perhaps "Teen from India" to avoid confusion.
It's not a racism thing, it's a "This incident happened to someone of this nationality so you can identify better." thing.

I'm so tired of people jumping on the "why do you have to call them a <nationality> person instead of just a person?!" bandwagon.

I'm not offended when people say "That Canadian guy said this." So what's the big deal? Aren't we past this sort of thing? Racism exists because people still bring up reasons for it to exist. (Acknowledging the fact that some people are out to offend, this particular news report was not written to offend.)

Read the news, this is how they do headlines. The idea is to give you as much info as possible, to sum up the story, in as few words as possible.

You said it all in that highlighted phrase and you are absolutely right, the only thing that sometimes I get upset about is when people generalize without even knowing the context, for instance they see an Asian person doing something and they refer to him "this Chinese guy is doing this or that", that is sometimes outrageous because this person is in fact Japanese or Korean or Thai, or other minor Asian country, and when someone points to this dumb person that this guy isn't Chinese, but from other nationality, this dumb person go an say something like, they're all alike and they're all weird. I've seen this kind of statements all to many times, and this in my opinion is the true nature of racism, people often tend to generalize and despise what they don't know, and when this generalization is made by a large group of people, then it can become serious, and drive people not only do despise but also to hate this that they don't know and understand.

But on the other hand the title of this thread is completely racism free, it's just pointing out that a young boy from China has committed suicide by whatever reasons, like the previous post stated, it is no different if this boy was from the UK, or from South Africa, Brazil or Sweden.

Racism is over, we know we are all alike, we know that despite we have whiter or darker skin, rounder or stretchier eyes, we are all human, we all experience reality in the same way, and there is no need to be continuously trying to hard to seem like an anti racist, because I can guarantee all of you that when the day comes that a guy in this forum or any other over the net or even in real life, makes a statement about how his race or nationality is better than some other, he will be banned from wherever he is and won't dare to make a racist statement among rational people ever again.

There is no need to be in the safeguard, racism is dead, keep it that way.

thank god i'm not the only one that thinks like that, all along I keep thinking the only reason why the writer wrote "Chinese" is because it took place in China
