I have this question, because Ive had writers that ive paid for articles give me articles that werent unique. I caught onto this by copying the first paragraph into google and seeing that other articles were the same. What are some ways to protect myself in the future though, if a writer is smarter and only copies parts, it could still hurt my site and I may not even realize it. I hear people talk about Copy Scape? Is this a site I can use to check, or is it a program or what? Ive also heard of guys adding some kind of coding into copied articles so they arnt detected? What is this called, and how can I make sure that isnt being done to me also?

Yes, Copyscape uses bing and google's api to search for queries that matches the text you entered. I think Plagium dose the same thing for free.

Just write (copy) out a small portion of the article yourself, and add it to Copyscape.
