Cheap/free way to have a dedicated work (land) line?

I've been given the ability to work from home, but they strongly recommend that I use a dedicated land line as my 'work number'. I really think it's unnecessary, as they simply just think that it will be more reliable and stable than a cell phone, but I hardly have any issue with my cell phone (especially if I'm just going to be sitting in my home office and using it).

I do have an existing land line (that I share with my family), but they suggested I get a dedicated line in case that one is being occupied. During business hours, no one will really be using the land line (or even at home), so I think I can manage with one.

My current solution is using my google voice number that I have. I can make that forward calls to both my cell phone and my land line, so, in the event my land line is being used, it will be forwarded to my cell phone. I was wondering if there were other alternatives I could look in to (internet land lines, etc).

    Thanks in advance.

(Also, I realize adding a second land line is probably fairly cheap and worth the trouble for me, but I'm on a tight budget and, if I can get around it, that would be preferable).

Well im going to be honest, this is from my own experience, get your own phone line, i use to use my shared home phone line a while back, but ive always had a few problems with my step dad, he use to turn it the router off when he went to sleep etc, which annoyed me alot, so in the end i got my own phone line installed, only 15 quid a month, which is nothing at all, and no i have my own phone line in my room, since this is have made ALOT more money online, the fact ive had my own phoneline helps alot, its been used for alot of things that i wouldnt use a share home phone for. Not sure your circumstances, but if can afford it, i would defo say get your own line, best thing i ever did.

I don't really have many expenses, as I'm a recent graduate still living with my family. I guess I'm just too damn frugal for my own good. If it's for work, I suppose I'd get a lot of use out of it.

I'd only be working during business hours, and I don't think any conflicts would arise with my phone. My parents won't be home all day, and my brother doesn't use the land line, so it would essentially be mine, and if can use my google voice account to give myself my own number. The only problems are:

-I will have other, non-business people calling it (telemarketers, family friends, etc)
-Outbound calls are kinda a pain, as I can't call the numbers directly, I have to go through an intermediate step and then dial out (if I want my google voice number to show as the number I'm dialing with).

I guess I should have worded my topic a little better, but I'm not necessarily wondering if I should go with a landline or google voice, but I want to know if there are similar services that function like google voice in which I could emulate my own line with little to no cost to myself.
