I'm looking to change my current website software (zen cart) to an alternative. My site is a good few years old, and has a lot of pages indexed in Google.

When I change the software - obviously, it will be using a different URL format. Which means all the indexed links and pages in Google will lead to 404s.

Is there anything I can do about this?

It depends on how your links look like.

If you've got dynamic links (e.g. http://yourside.com/something.php?something=something) then there's no a whole lot you can do. If you've got "SEO-friendly" URLs though then something you could do is simply locate the files that rank on Google and after switching to the new system create a set of files with same names, but 301 redirect them to the appropriate URLs in the new system.

Zen Cart uses static URLs. It looks like the new software also uses static URLs. However there is no way for me to customize them.

Would it work if I simply get a list of all the URLs from my current site, and then 301 re-direct each page to its equivilant on the new site?

    Yep, this would work.

Give google about a week after you do it and everything should be good :)

Thanks. So Google would simply update the indexed pages?
