This guide is for people who sell items at high volume amongst several accounts. As you may know already, ebay can track you and link your accounts together via IP.

To begin with, this applies to cable modems connected via the ethernet port to a router.
DOES NOT APPLY TO USB CONNECTIONS. DOES NOT APPLY TO MODEM CONNECTED DIRECT TO NETWORK ADAPTER.
If you plug your modem into your PC via USB, stop doing that. You lose speed and you give away secrets.

Your cable modem gets IP based on the MAC of what it is connected TO, not the MAC of the modem itself.
If your ISP has assigned you a STATIC IP address, you're stuck with it. It's not common for them to do that, though.

If you are looking for the walkthrough for Cable Modem Connected directly to NIC:
How to change IP address if you have a CABLE MODEM connected to your NIC

    [begin modem/router]
01a. Goto IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup and write your current ip address down.
02a. Change the MAC ID for the ROUTER.
02b. Open your browser and enter the information to access the web-setup to your router (usually http://192.168.1.1)
You can find this in your router manual or by viewing the status of your ethernet. It is your default gateway.
02c. You may get a popup asking for login name and password. If you didn't change it, try admin admin or admin and blank.
Different routers have different factory default login/password. Google 'router default password <your brand>'.
03a. Look around in the setup for the option for MAC address. Some routers have many MAC addresses. you need WAN MAC.
If you only find one MAC setting, obviously that's the one you want.
04a. Do NOT choose to clone any MAC already in your system. Change the numbers in the last 2 pairs as you wish.
MAC is in this format - xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx - and the first 4 sets need to stay as they are. The last pairs change.
You can make those any hex numbers between 00-FF. Set this manually. Don't CLONE anything.
05a. After you change, you need to save the settings. So click save.
06a. You can either reboot the router or you can Release DHCP then Renew DHCP from the router, if you see the option.
07a. Regardless of what you did for 06a, unplug and replug your MODEM while the router is still doing it's thing.
08a. Goto IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup and compare it to what you got from 01a. It should be different.
If it is still the same, either you missed a step or your IP is STATIC.
    [end modem/router]

If people are selling items at large volumes, eBay will do what they can to shut them down, as well as any accounts linking to there ip.

So the answer to your question, yes it's relevant.

I am just wondering - the whole process is super clear - could you please tell me , how many accounts do you run at once and obviously how many IPs do run at once ! I have been on the eBay market for the last 3 years and I currently have 15+ accounts in good health and 2 accs suspended , 2 accs limited as only buyers accs ! I personally pay around 80 USD monthly for 20 Unique Static IPs , which I switch on every log - I have never used Windows User Accounts , since Mozilla Firefox can clone itself and can be multiplied into 5 different browsers on one screen , which keeps cache and cookies separated one from another ! Anyway - thanks in advance for your response

This is a very old method I use to use as well when making new accounts at eBay back then, but do not abuse it! You don't get to have unlimited different ip, as you're stuck in the pool of IP your local ISP has.

Nevertheless, thank the OP for posting it.

the problem is if ebay wants to track you down, simply changing your ips is not a solution

You could just turn off the cable modem for a few hours....

There are a few methods that work. I came across an incredible sale on routers, purchased 3 extras and now I have them labelled with each specific account/use. When I need a new IP address, I switch routers. In my case at least, unplugging the cable from the modem for a few hours (or a day for that matter) does not result in an IP address change.

Invest in an iphone, jailbreak it and get the mywi app. You tether the phone to your laptop and everytime you are running the mywi app and reset it using airplane mode your ip changes everytime so there is no need to go through all that router nonsense. Also, for each acct you have make a new user acct on your desktop and never ever log into a different acct under the wrong desktop user acct. This also solves the problem of mixing up your cookies with other accts and also you will be leaving the cookies on each user acct which makes you look good in ebays eyes :D

Now, I'm tempted to use this mywi app. I was just reading about it today. It seems like a most efficient use of time and energy...

Very nice guide but I suspect it may be a bit to technical for noobies.
Since this is for Ebay, why not use proxies?

An easier way might be to just unplug the cable modem and go to bed. If the cable modem is not "live" for X amount of hours the IP will get deleted so you get a new one in the morning.
I did this in The Netherlands a few years back and it worked like a charm. Might be the same in other countries too I think.

I would never, ever suggest using proxies. Ebay is very good at detecting them. But it also may depend on the provider you have as well. But I have had no luck with them.

Now I know why the OP wasn't using proxies.
    Thank you for that. :)

A quick search told me they are indeed detectable, didn't know that either.
Can't say I'm happy to learn this. :(
Seems there are ways to make it very difficult to detect them though. This needs further investigation.

Anyways: Thank you for teaching me something. :)

Great guide! I have one question though, I logged into my router and found the MAC address - which is disabled? Does this mean I Have to follow another method to change my IP?
I know its a dynamic NOT a static IP so I can change it, just looking for the method!

Thanks for any help anyone can give me
