I am trying to figure out the easiest way to do this. I want the backlinks of the blog to stay in tact. right now they are subdomain/directory so just www.site.com/blog

I finally registered my name as a domain, so i added the domain www.myname.com to www.site.com, and pointed it to /blog directory. So no files changed.

How do I get my blog to start using www.myname.com but all old google cached links of site.com/blog/post1 still work (and would now just redirect to www.myname.com/post1?

if you are confused, ask. Would really appreciate help, I am not a noob but cant figure this out. I figured this should help, but I dont know which to do if any.

It depends on how complicated you want to get. The easiest option is to just upload a php script that returns a 301 redirect in the root directory to your new domain. This will keep the backlinks to your old home page pointing to your new one but they'll be devalued a bit.

The first problem with just doing this is that your new site will have to be crawled and it will take lots of time to index all of the pages. The second problem is that any inbound links directly to your individual posts won't count anymore. This may or may not be a big deal.

You can redirect all the old pages to the new ones and make it as smooth as possible using htaccess and php but I don't know how off the top of my head. I'm sure it's been posted here before if you want to go that way.
