Change Listing Information in Google Maps

So I had a problem today with a wrong phone number to my company listed on Google. In my successful attempt to fix it, something crossed my mind. If you can edit all of the details Google Map holds on any place in the world you could do a lot with that.

Anyways, I don't know how logical it really is, or even the flaws. All I know is I've never seen this before so I figured I'd post it here.

Here's what I did:

1. Type in a business into google that will bring up a map.
2. Click the map
3. Click the red balloon and click edit
4. edit details. it even allows you to edit the website linked to it. (need to be logged into Google Account)

Like I said I just found this. I don't know of the flaws (I'm sure there are some). If someone knows something I don't please feel free to share as well.

It would be good if others can verify that you change actually went through...

It may be that Google still shows the OLD data to the world

(and maybe only shows new data to your IP / cookie / logged in Google Account)


I dont know for sure, but I am finding it really hard to believe that you can edit anybody's local business data in real time. Imagine what a mess it would quickly become

No way... so let's say I run "Bob's kitchen sinks" ... long story short I can go to google business map listings and change my competitor's "John's kitchen sinks" phone number to mine?

LOL wow... but can anyone confirm that it actually does a global change for everyone? Just seems very absurd that you can edit any company's info to whatever you wish???

Wow, this would be an insane find if it's editing it globally!! Do you want to pm the link and I'll check if it's changed it for me too?

I can now successfully confirm I have changed my companies number in Google maps. It hasn't changed in Google search but it probably just hasn't got it from GMaps yet, hasn't been very long.

How about configuring a bot to change all the phone numbers of every company in the country to the number of your cheating ex. Not exactly a money making idea but I'm in a bit of a sour mood right now.

Keep in mind I said you can change the website as well

I can also now verify that it works globally meaning it doesn't only change on my computer. It changes everything.
