On many news sites that have a comment section(what I meant by News Forums), they commonly delete messages that they do not agree with. Even though its not making personal attacks. Which doesn't make any sense since the news sites have freaking ads on them. People spending longer on the website voicing their opinion are going to be exposed to more ads and its going to help increase revenue for the news sites.

Is it usually done on purpose, or the moderators just don't have the interest of corporate on their mind when they are moderating.

There's always an abundance of political keyboard warriors to keep it all alive. I seriously doubt it will have an
impact on business interest. If they started censoring it to the point another news agency picks it up and displays it, well then it would hurt the news organizations credibility (like they had any) and could....could.... hurt the organization as a whole.

It would be interesting to test censorship vs no censorship and the effects it has on average page views per user.

Largely automated spam defeating mechanisms, but of course some moderators manually handle comments eliminating opposing viewpoints. I don't understand why you care at all, and am left imagining you are frustrated that a comment campaign you were running has lost steam somehow. Glad this is in the lounge, because it's definitely a topic that could put someone to sleep.

I wasn't running a campaign, I was debating some topic on a news site, and noticed some of my comments and many comments of others were deleted. The strangest thing is this particular news site tries to pass itself off as a neutral news source.Yet the moderators working for them, seem to mod in a biased way. I can understand getting rid of comments if the site is biased, yet I've seen some biased news sites such as RT which doesn't really care about comments with opposing views unless they are personal attacks or something illegal.
