I know $49 isn't a lot to most, but to me right now, it is what is keeping me from listing an eBook that could make much much more than that, simply because I don't have the money at the moment.

Why don't they just take a cut of sales? Seeing how every other site in the world does that, it seems like it would make more sense.

Because what they don't tell you is that a vast majority of items listed never sell a single copy. So the only way they make money on a great many items is with the upfront fee. It sucks, I know.

They do take a cut of your sales, in addition to the $49 fee.

That's more because sellers/products are rubbish, not Clickbank as a platform. It's not their job to sell your products.

The reason they charge a setup fee is to keep junk products out of the marketplace. By charging a fee, most people who can't afford to run a business, won't apply to list a product. No offence OP, but if you can't afford $49, then you probably shouldn't be selling products. Go 10 copies at $5 on a relevant forum, then apply for an account.
