Hi guys,

Just wondering what you guys think link building to category pages.

For instance i have a blog, which has individual posts (targeting keywords), that are categorize into different categories.

My current link building strategy is to link to category pages - www.site.com/category which then contain all the relevant posts.

My idea is that doing this will naturally increase all posts within that category, rather then focusing link building on just specific posts. It may take longer to rank, but my theory is that it should naturally improve rankings for all posts in categories overtime.

What do you guys think about this, and has anyone done this before?

Cheers,
AZ

yea, i seen a guy had created a blog post just by aggregating all of his top posts on a particular subject. He said that it had ranked really well and brought much more traffic to his other posts. I guess by simply ranking the category page is an easy way to go about it.
I havent tried it myself but its worth a try i guess.

it's probably a good practice.

Think of it this way:

Posts that stay in homepage tend to rank higher.

Why?

Because homepage usually is or is one of the pages with the highest backlinks / link juice / DA / PA, so the link juice flows to the post making it rank higher, if a category also has good backlinks/link juice then it will also give the post even more extra boost making it rank even higher.

building quality links is always a good practise, i some time link my contact pages as well especially when its a local business site.
