After my rankings fell post the penguin update, I decided to test out the 301 redirect trick. I got a new domain and did a 301 redirect to it, content and everything was the same.

    Here are my results:

Initially my rankings jumped back to #1, but after 7 days it started to fall again.

I hope this brings some insight for anyone who found this useful.

That's actually a pretty positive increase considering that penguin 1.1 came out last night. If you are willing, can you remove the 301 redirect and see what happens? Would be an interesting test.

Penguin Update took place on 24th April and this site wasn't hit at all.

Anyways, can you show us a screenshot of your old domain as when it was penalised because you said this screenshot is only for the new domain.

    Hey Lanbo,

In this example, Did you 301 redirect sites to the new domain that lost their rankings do to penguin?

It would be interesting to find out if redirecting several domains that fell off the charts after penguin to a aged niche related domain of ten plus years would be beneficial or suffer the same consequences.
