I have two sites that got -50 last september, over 6 months ago. I have been mostly waiting to see if those sites just come back, but no result. Now I have bought new domains (other one is new EMD, other is EMD with hyphen) and transferred content (almost identical). Other one I have 301 redirected few days ago, other one I did today.

Other one (EMD) is allready ranking #5 for its 3 most targeted KW's (total of 5000 Exact, 2.5?) and few other rankings on 1st page and 2nd page. Still waiting for other one to get indexed.

What I did for first one to get indexed was just pinging, adding it to some local blog directories, relevant forums and just few social signals (facebook/twitter/g+1). Both have diversified linking strategy going on.

Now I'm just hoping rankings will stick and penalty will not get transferred. But as of now, it seems like this method works for getting out of -50.

    1) Buy new domain.
    2) Transfer content.
    3) 301 redirect.
    4) Build some manual "white hat" links and get social
    5) Rank again!

Will report what happens next weeks/months.

I received the message from Google about 3 weeks ago and I think it's a -50 penalty also. Will subscribe to this thread.

There are mixed opinions about doing this. Many believe the penalty will get transferred to the new domain around the day 7 to 8 mark while others have done this successfully with no penalty transfer.

Personally i think to have a better chance of this working i would have skipped step 2) and added brand new content to your money site. Anyway, subscribing to thread to see what happens.

Why did you get the penalty in the first place? Did you use the same anchor text for all of your backlinks?

Interested to see what happens. There was someone on here who did the same thing you did with the 301 redirect and when he did it, the site came back initially, then he get completely de-indexed. Let us know what happens.

I dont think it was that. More likely it was due to poor backlinks combined to thin content. I was penalized few days after hitting first place in quite competitive niche, so not even sure was this manual or algorithm.

I did almost the same thing and initially website came back to even higher positions but for a couple of days (like 7-8) new domain has dropped again.

I had also unique content on new domain, hidden whois information, new hosting, new website look, new content - everything new (even contact data);D

Looks like it is not that easy nowadays to get rid of a penalty.

this is what i have been hearing, not really possible to shake the penalty...too easy to do if its true...its works for a little bit (days/week) and then same thing...

just an idea, what if you switched the 301 redirect every week from the new site back to the old site? would you get the effects of the switch to the new site for a week and then switch back to old site and maybe you get good rankings for a week and then switch back to the new site...you could do this indefinetly and see good results...who knows...

if anyone is doing the 301 redirect, try this and let us know what happens...just thinking out loud here...

You know you received a -50 penalty if your site was on the first page of google search and then your site is on the sixth page of google, pretty simple...

You know if your sites are penalized if your SERPs tanked...

Now the other site is also fully indexed and ranking at 1st page. Looking good so far. Going to add some content to both.

I thought google informs u if u are using google webmaster tools that they detected unnatural linking? Otherwise how do u not know the -50 is not a google dance?

What was the -50 penalty for? Unnatural links?
