One site does not make a legitimate study but I wanted to share some results because it just happens that I haven't done any backlinking to this site yet.

The site is an exact match domain. No dashes, no other words, EXACT keywords. I got super lucky when I found it as a dropped domain and up for auction and everyone missed it. Similar domains that aren't as good were selling for $100-1000.

The site has no cached pages in Google and no history showing in web archive. Apparently someone just sat on this domain and never used it.

Here's what I did. I setup the site with a youtube video (not mine) on the homepage, had some content rewritten for it and added a couple of pages. The site is straight HTML. It took about a week before Google finally indexed it. Since then I have added 3 more pages that have not been indexed yet.

All content is rewritten content. It is unique but I'll bet that it may still have some overlap from the sites I took it from.

On page factors: I didn't go overboard on this. In fact my keyword density in the article itself is pretty low. I think it may be like 1 time out of 400 words. I think the homepage is about 750 words total roughly for the main content. Sidebar content is straight copied from another site.

Title and meta description both have the keyword in it. I think 1 alt tag may also have it in it. One H1 and H5 tag have the keywords in it.

No contact page, privacy policy link is to a "trust-e" page for the affiliate site I am promoting. There's an email listed on the site for the affiliate program that I'm promoting. Home page also has a capture form.

So no links, didn't spend much time on SEO on site. It's a nice looking site and it's been live for about 3 weeks now. Haven't started any backlinking campaigns. Oh and I ripped the design and tweaked it a little.

Here's a screenshot of my rankings so far.

MS is the exact local monthly searches. Global I believe is around 40K. My previous site that was number one for it got slapped big time so I created a new one.

As you can see doing absolutely nothing with the site I have been hitting the second to third page for my main KW.

New site bounce? Maybe, but I had an initial bounce to 19 about a week after indexing. It bounced out for a week and has now been sitting at around 19-22 for a week now. The secondary KW you see just started ranking. The primary KW is moderately difficult.

I didn't believe in EMD's carrying much weight until I saw the rankings for this site. I'm still not sold on it but it looks like they may have gained some traction.

Subbed, looking forward to seeing some results over the long-term. How are you monetizing the site?

how can you do that ? is there any big boss on your niche and they will do nothing and see your EMD gets the No 1 on Google ?

    EMD =/= automatic rankings

There are a lot of other factors going on here. With a 70K keyword you probably have a shitload of competition. My niche doesn't have a bunch of IMers in it so the competition is easier but I am still competing with very old authority sites.

Exact Match in what country exactly?

Ranking in non-English countries is much easier than the English ones.

subscribed. The value of EMD's it's not the same as it used to be, but they still are important. Many EMD's are ranking on top right now, but i think Google could devalue them even more in the coming updates

I think a combination of using 4-5 related, interlinking keywords that have low SEO competition, kept below 50k exact monthly searches each, together out perform the rankings of an EMD for one keyword.

I need to read everything in this thread. I admit in the beginning - Commented to save my place and try to build past 15.

Is the keyword being in the name of the site... REALLY the most important piece?
If the name of the site isn't keyword rich... Could it be SEO'd or would the uphill battle not be worth it?
For INstance... The word dell is a brand, not a keyword. Creating a Brand is the hardest thing to do, but also the most rewarding. So how do you utilize SEO to create a Brand and not just sell products?

I can't PM you back btw if you do respond.
