A US-based start-up claims to have broken security tests used to tell humans and computers apart online.

Vicarious said it had developed technology, based on the human brain, which could solve text-based Captcha tests 90% of the time. In tests, the Recursive Cortical Network software solved 90% of Captcha tests used by Google, Yahoo, PayPal, and Captcha.com.

Looking good, I wonder what this startup intends to do with this tech..
And yes, it would be amazing if GSA CB could some day match this functionality :p

These guys did something incredible. I have a personal made captcha breaker, it also solves around 90% of the captchas. However, it solves only those captchas I trained it to solve. And unfortunately for me, solving Google/Yahoo/Paypal captchas is not an option, because the segmentation part is pretty complex.

Vicarious aims higher, they basically attempt to create a human brain on the long run. On the short run, they created something they call "human vision". As a result, they dont need to train their algorithms for every new captcha out there, its generic.

Generic is pretty bad word when it comes to Captchas. Because if machine can solve any captcha with 90% success rate, while humans succeed only in 80% of the cases, it means only one thing - its no longer a Turing test, and there is no reason to use for big corporations.

No computer has ever beaten the Turing Test and for the near future they never will. This is PR for fundraising for this project, but it's just hype, like someone claiming they solved P = NP, if they did, they'd be on the covers of all magazines.
