    Hey all.

My brother did something kind of dumb. He applied for a C1 credit card and he kind of lied about his income. I think he selected the lowest possible income $20k, but he doesn't even make that much--at least I don't think he can prove it. His credit score is clean though. They approved him for a $500 line of credit and they said they'd send his card within 7-10 days. I was VERY surprised they even approved him. He's self employed but he doesn't really make much money.

So as you can probably guess, my question is: are they going to do any kind of income confirmation at all?

I know they want all the customers they can get (AKA future debters) , and I know it's only $500, but are they really this careless?

Edit: And yeah, I'm sure he CAN afford the $40-$60 a month bill...but still.

It is very easy to get a Capital One card.
Lying on the application is not a problem, they only check his credit history with a credit reference agency and as long as it is clean they will issue the card.
Just make sure he pays off the total balance each month as the interest is higher for those cards.

It is not a crime to lie to credit card companies. I doubt I have ever told the truth in my life when applying for a bank account when I was unemployed.

Thanks. Ok..that's weird. I guess for lower lines of credit it does make sense for them to not check. They need as many customers as they can get, I guess.

I'll tell him he'd better be damned sure to pay off the bill on time..it's a slippery slope.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but it is a crime--a federal crime. It's bank fraud, sec 1014 of title 18. Just thought you should know.

if credit history is ok, card will be issued. They dont check wages or financial info. They rely on credit checks.

umm banks are pretty sleezy. they want to lend to anyone as long as they have a small window of regaining that money. I don't think there will be any income confirmation but remember that if you use that line of credit he should be pretty careful about over spending or hidden fees.

The NSA (National Security Agency) is selling income and expenditure information to the credit card companies, and are forwarding any evidence of financial malfeasance to both local and federal law enforcement. Certain secret provisions of the Patriot Act make lying to a credit card company a felony as undermining the foundation of the country (debt) is a threat to National Security.
