can't use search engines

hey people
i can't use the search engines. i can get to google home page, but when i type sumthing into search it just keeps loading. i can't even get to the yahoo homepage. i have no idea whats going on. i appreciate if anyone help.

try finding your host file on your computer and open it with notepad then delete any websites or ip addresses that are listed and save and close. then i would do a virus/spyware scan. this should fix your problem.

Is this happening on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera ? (if you have all 3 installed)
Can you even ping yahoo ? Maybe something is messed with your hosts file
Are they http or https pages that are giving you trouble ?

im sorry but i have no idea what the host file is. it's happening on firefox and IE it's starting to irritate me it's also happening on my desktop and laptop both use same connection. i thank any help

click the start button--then click search--search for hosts--open any file that says hosts with notepad and delete any websites or ip adresses that you see--close the file--save changes, yes--do that for each file that just says hosts--then do a virus and spyware scan...this happened to me a couple of years back, spyware or virus messed with my hosts file and i wasnt able to use google or yahoo.
