    Hi all,
i registered a new domain about 1 month today and started linkbuilding. Most white hat ^^. At the Pagerank update it got a PR of 3 and i just checked my rankings with 2 different tools: Spyglass Seo Rank Tracker and the free google monitor from cleverstat.com and they both say i´m on rank 5 for my main keyword, which gains according to google keyword tool 12000 searches each month. For some other keyword, which gain also ,according to the keyword tool ,a few thousand searches i also rank in the top ten. But when i check my stats there are only 2 visitor per day from google through this search term. I know that the main traffic goes to the number one and i´m working on getting there, which could be hard because there´s wikipedia in front of me. But statistic says that rank 5 gets about 5% of the total traffic from google. That would be at least 20 visitor through google. I also checked the rankings at the computer of some friends who never visited my site before and the rankings were correct.

And now i´m wondering where´s my mistake? Where is all the traffic going? I got a nice catchy meta description and my page is way better designed and gives away a lot more real value than the other in the top ten. Its a wordpress page, but i use it as an static page about a scientific topic and it is in german (and ranks of course for a german keyword).

Could it be that Wikipedia gets all the traffic because the people trust wikipedia that much or is it possible that the google keyword tool gives me wrong stats? Please help me guys :)

Well first of all I am assuming the 12000 estimate by the goo gle tool is a broad number. Look for a drop down box and change the search to exact. I promise you that number is going to go way down if you haven't already done this.

And yes, wikipedia being in front of you will hurt your chances of receiving a lot of traffic. Especially if that page has what the people are looking for.

Hmm didn´t knew before that wikipedia can hurt that much :( lesson learned. The 12000 were exact searches but now i´m wondering in what range the keyword tool can be wrong because when you claim that it isnt accurate? Thanks for the help :)

Yes, something must be messed up. If there are 12000 exact searches according to the google tool and you are number 5, then the tool must be wrong. Regardless of what is in front of you, number 5 is going to get more than 2 a day. Try some other tools. Get Market Samurai off of BHW or buy it. Ot you can go to the wordtracker keyword tool. But Market Samurai is prob your best bet.

You could try putting up a Google paid ad and see how many impressions it actually gets. Put some junk the title/description so people don't actually click on it, run it for maybe 3-5 days and you'll get a good estimate of its actual traffic.
